Q. Can I burn in the City Limits?
A. Yes, come by Station 1 and obtain a burn permit. Permits are free to Residents for small fires. If the fire causes a smoke nuisance it will have to be extinguished. There are certain conditions that must be met PRIOR to burning. Check with Station 1 before you burn 251.968-7422.

Q. Can a business have an open burn?
A. Yes. A commercial application will have to be filed with the Fire Marshal. A $50.00 application fee applies. (Non-Refundable). Certain conditions and rules must be met prior to burning. Call the Fire Marshal or submit application. If the burn becomes a nuisance the permit will be revoked and no further burning will be allowed. Illegal burning will lead to fines and  a trip to municipal court.

Q.Can we have a  fire on the beach?
A. NO.  Fires are not allowed on the beach for any reason.

Q. Can we shoot off Fireworks?
A. NO. It is illegal to sell or use fireworks in the City of Gulf Shores. Fireworks on the beach leaves unsightly litter please don't spoil the beach for others.

Q. Can I Grill on my condo balcony?
A. NO. It is illegal to have an open flame on any balcony. It is also illegal to bring propane (Lp) tanks into a residence. Besides, do you want to take the chance of burning someone below your balcony?

Q. What do I do for Jelly Fish stings?
A. We recommend a mix of vinegar and meat tenderizer. Several over-the-counter pain killing sprays are available at the pharmacies in town.

Q. Are there Sharks in the water?
A. Yes, its the Gulf of Mexico. We have Sharks and Dolphins, Porpoises. If  you are lucky you might even see a Manatee!

Q. Are the alligators tame?
A. NO!  If you feed the gators you can become injured or killed. If an alligator starts to come around looking for food from illegal feeding, that alligator will be destroyed. You do not want to be injured or be the cause of a gators death. If you want to see wildlife up close go to the Gulf Coast Zoo. You will have a great time and learn about our local wildlife.

Q. Where is the nearest hospital and Emergency room?
A. South Baldwin Hospital is located 8 miles north of Gulf Shores in Foley on Highway 59 (Gulf Shores Parkway).
